Manchester United 4-1 Fulham player ratings Diogo Dalot among the stars as Jose Mourinhos men win
Manchester United eased to a straight forward 4-1 win over Fulham in the Premier League as they keep themselves on the fringes of the top four battle. The Red Devils are still in the hunt thanks to the victory, which was achieved without Paul Pogba even taking to the field.
6Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho celebrates during their win over Fulham. The Frenchman remained on the substitutes bench throughout as Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford all netted against the Premier Leagues bottom club.Even Aboubakar Kamaras penalty, given away by Ander Herrera, wont have had too many fans sweating. But who were the stars out on the pitch for Jose Mourinhos men? Find out how we rated Manchester Uniteds star against Fulham below.
Goalkeeper: David De Gea 6/10Thankfully for the Spanish superstar he was involved in a fairly uneventful game, from his point of view.
Diogo Dalot 8/10Booked in the first half, the young Portuguese was spritely down the right flank and attempted to whip the ball into the box whenever able. His ability from wide positions has got some supporters excited and why not?
6Dalot is set to be the long-term successor to Antonio Valencia at full-back.Ashley Young – 7.5/10Once again reminded us all of his time as a winger as he powered home the ball after nutmegging Denis Odoi. He was fine in possession too getting forward and picking the right passes in very good display.
Phil Jones 7/10A decent enough performance from the England defender but was never truly taken out of his comfort zone with partner Chris Smalling dealing with Aleksandar Mitrovic for most of his time on the pitch.
Chris Smalling 6/10Handled Mitrovic well throughout but did play one horrendous pass into the crowd which left fans and neutrals bemused and amused all at once. He was forced off with an injury after the hour-mark though, which will put a downer on his afternoon.
6Smalling was forced from the field due to a muscle problem.Nemanja Matic 6/10After a torrid time of late, the Serbian looked a lot more settled and linked well with Ashley Young and Ander Herrera in the centre of midfield. Still nothing more than average though and will need to start stepping it up soon.
Ander Herrera 7/10Missed an excellent second half chance to put the game to bed before the tackle that gave away Fulhams penalty. Prior to this it was a fine performance in the middle of the park but hell be disappointed by the errors.
Juan Mata 8/10In a milestone day for the Spaniard he scored his 50
th Premier League goal and got his 50
th assist in the English top flight. He was key throughout and deserved plenty of plaudits of a display that makes you question why he isnt one of the first names on Jose Mourinhos team sheet.
6Mata celebrates scoring his 50th Premier League goal.Marcus Rashford 8/10The forward, after a frustrating afternoon, got on the scoresheet just before being hauled off by Jose Mourinho, wed suggest the Sergio Rico should have saved the shot but following plenty of effort at Old Trafford it was deserved for the Englishman. It looks like hes playing his way into good form.
6Rashford netted the fourth goal of the afternoon for Manchester United.Jesse Lingard 6/10Hes always going to give you plenty of hustle and bustle, which was needed today, but lacked a little technically and was, perhaps wisely, the player withdrawn when Fred entered the fray.
Romelu Lukaku 6/10The Belgians smart pass on the left flank let Rashford loose to lay on Matas goal and he was then on hand to make the score 3-0 from a smart corner routine, with the Spaniard returning the favour with and assist. Overall a much neater game from the striker, who wasnt afraid to drop deep and do some dirty work, and it looks like some time out has done him some good.
6Lukaku looked a lot better against Fulham.Substitute Marcos Rojo 6/10On for the injured Smalling at the hour-mark and did well in tough circumstances with one vital lunge putting off Ryan Sessegnon at the vital moment.
Substitute Fred 6/10The Brazilian took to the field with around 20 minutes left and put on a decent show in his limited time on the pitch. There is definite promise if Mourinho can use him correctly.
Substitute Scott McTominay N/AHe couldnt get enough power on a later header to pose any threat on Sergio Ricos goal and wasn’t on the field long enough to accomplish much else.
