Some England fans damaged the country’s reputation in Portugal
A section of England fans clashed with riot police in Porto ahead of the Netherlands game and were branded an embarrassment to the team by the FA.And they further damaged the travelling supporters reputation by booing the Dutch national anthem inside the stadium.talkSPORT host Durham said: The amount of flags were incredible in that stadium, the noise was incredible. The Dutch national anthem got booed by the England fans, they keep doing that, thats got to stop. When were talking about respecting another country, respecting a city, thats the first step. That booing of another national teams anthem has to stop immediately.Durham wants disruptive fans to educate themselves and thinks stadium bans should be handed out.He added: This has got to stop as well, during the national anthem for England, theres a moment when the England fans shout no surrender – and that has to stop. They know when it is, its not part of the lyrics of the national anthem, it has to stop. Its part of the problem. So booing the other teams national anthem has got to stop and the singing of no surrender during our national anthem also has to stop. Those fans are in the stadium doing this what we have to start doing is locating them, identifying them and banning them. Thats whats got to happen. The way forward [is] teaching some England fans, I stress its the minority, teaching some England fans to respect opponents and to respect another country and its population.Thats got to be the first step and hopefully fans will learn and theyll start to educate themselves.
