Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirms Joe Gomez suffered ankle injury against Burnley and could be out for a while

However, the injury to Gomez was a real sour note on the night, as the 21-year-old careered into the advertising hoardings and was subsequently stretchered off.And Klopp was in sombre mood when discussing the possibility of losing his versatile starlet for an extended period of time.It was his ankle, the manager said at his post-match press conference.Joe is injured and probably not only a little bit. We have to see, we dont know in the moment. We sent him home. Klopp was pleased with the way his side fought back from 1-0 down, but thought the hosts’ overly physical approach was a contributing factor in Gomez’s injury. They wanted to be aggressive,” Klopp said afterwards. “Aggression is a part of football. You try something, and you need someone to say ‘be careful’.“There were a lot of situations, challenges. There was nothing to say ‘wow, too much’ –they were normal challenges. But with six or seven yards and then , these times are over. They are over.“We all want to win football games, and there are different ways of doing it. Somebody has to tell you to stop doing it, make two more steps and make a normal challenge. Don’t go five yards before the player, because the grass is wet, and take any risk [out of the tackle].“It’s not intentional, but these are the situations. The boy with the ball is a bit unlucky because what can happen is what happened to Joe Gomez. I think the referee has to make sure that things like this don’t happen constantly. It’s not how it should be. Let’s play football.”Jurgen Klopp and Sean Dyche disagreed on how physical the Burnley v Liverpool game was2

Sean Dyche, meanwhile, disagreed and said he thought “there were some excellent challenges.”“That’s part of that front-foot mentality. You’ve got to win the ball, you’ve got to challenge against these boys. You’ve got toput a marker on the game – not only with good tackles, but also with good play. I thought we were effective. We mixed it. Not effective enough, don’t get me wrong.“But we’ve got to get back to being ‘us’. We’ve got to get back to the consistency of being ‘us’. The shape was really good tonight, the energy and endeavour. And also the will to win because that was there right the way through the last breath.”With a hectic Christmas period coming up, the German will hope he can call on Gomez before too long. The former Charlton Athletic man missed England’s run to the World Cup semi-finals after undergoing ankle surgery in May.
